To account for the inherent uncertainty of predicting the future, our job is to compute a probabilistic representation over the intentions and movements of other agents. Our probabilistic predictions are then tightly integrated into our Planning system to deliver a safe and comfortable ride.

    • Develop new algorithms to model and recognize the future behavior of all other agents in the world

As a Manager on the ML Infra team you will lead software engineers, acting as a force multiplier for the applied research teams. Typical team tasks include library/package upgrades, application development, embedding ML Infra SWEs into customer teams to accelerate multi-month projects, and ad-hoc debugging support.

Our Calibration, Localization, and Mapping (CLAMS) team is responsible for building the algorithms and tools necessary for keeping Zoox vehicles well calibrated, always knowing where they’re located within the world, and aware of their environment. Without precise calibration, localization, and mapping our vehicles would be at a disadvantage when it comes to perceiving and reasoning about the surrounding world, and is therefore foundational in enabling results from many other teams across Zoox. This work is critical for scaling autonomous driving in a safe and reliable way.     • Investigate and develop rigorous, cutting-edge solutions to challenging, real world localization and pose estimation problems
    • Solve algorithmic problems that will allow Zoox to build a robust and safety-critical localization and pose system
    • Increase stability and reliability of our fused global and odometric sensor data, to create a highly-accurate global position estimate
    • Identify and mitigate failures of the position estimation system, e.g. driving outside nominal environments or during sensor failures

The Prediction & Behavior ML team is responsible for developing machine-learned models that understand the full scene around our vehicle and forecast the behavior for other agents, our own vehicle’s actions, and for offline applications. 

To solve these problems we develop deep learning algorithms that can learn behaviors from data and apply them on-vehicle to influence our vehicle’s driving behavior and offline to provide learned models to autonomy simulation and validation. Given the tight integration of behavior forecasting and motion planning, our team necessarily works very closely with the Planner team in the advancement of our overall vehicle behavior. The Collision Avoidance System (CAS) is responsible for detecting and reacting to imminent collision situations in support of our vehicle’s overall safety goals.
