About the Role

As a Data Scientist you will be responsible for implementing our data science strategy - which spans analytics through to machine learning across product development, performance improvement and risk management. This is a hands-on role where no task is too small or too big for you - from day to day performance analytics all the way to advanced analytics / ML-based projects.

The Data team is part of the broader Operations team and partners across the business to provide long-term and short-term decision making support. You are comfortable working cross functionally, internally and externally driving projects and providing insight, staying multiple ‘moves’ ahead of where we are. You will have a passion for data driven insights and the application of data science to real world problems. 

Role Responsibilities

Data Operations

    • Execute Zeller’s approach to the collection and use of data assets across the business
    • Build processes and techniques to ensure the quality of data and information across the business and providing the basis of high trust in all of data assets;
    • Work with Data Engineers to efficiently and effectively scale our data infrastructure to ensure that Data Science needs are incorporated into our growth roadmap.


    • Implementation and execution of Zeller’s Machine Learning approach across all business applications and domains - from pricing to risk management and beyond. This will include, but not limited to:
    • Developing and training machine learning models to improve Zeller’s fraud detection processes;
    • Understanding, predicting and preventing churn by analysing customer behavioursSupport new product development ideas by providing guidance on the best use of AI/ML to develop products or supporting tools.
    • Working with the business across research and day-to-day activity to provide tools, insights and BI to support decision making.
    • Using data and analysis techniques to identify:
    • Product improvements - including cross sell / up sell, improved personalisation, pricing and risk management;
    • Process improvement - including funnel and operational efficiency optimisation and improvements to the business’ forecasting approach;
    • Monetisation opportunities of Zeller’s data assets.

Your background and experience

    • 2 - 5  years of experience in BI / Data Science in a high growth environment;
    • Strong mathematical & numeracy skills;
    • Experience in SQL, noSQL, Python / R / Matlab - Python skills are valued;
    • Understanding of ETL framework and ETL tools including Skyvia, FiveTran, Apache Airflow;
    • Excellent analytical skills - the ability to identify trends, patterns and insights from data;
    • Experience with ML / AI models and their application to business problems such as churn, cross sell, risk assessment and other; 
    • Experience interpreting data and analysis to translate these insights into actionable outcomes / business decisions that improve Zeller’s strategy, product and operations.
