As an Electrical Engineer you will be responsible for supporting the electrical design, prototyping, and production of Shield AI's autonomous UAV products. You will engage cross-functionally with mechanical engineering, embedded software, prototype manufacturing, and production.
 
You will be responsible for diagnosing and resolving system and circuit board issues, providing design feedback, improving engineering processes, understanding full aircraft system operation, and familiarity with all aircraft supporting equipment. 

Specific responsibilities include:

    • Help diagnose, debug, and design solutions for system and circuit problems. This includes power conversion, communications, servos, GNSS, harnessing, etc. 
    • Help integrate, test, and verify various aircraft payloads (cameras, gimbals, radar, radios, sensors, etc.) 
    • Engage with cross-functional teams to drive solutions and changes to the aircraft  
    • Propose and help drive improvements to engineering and production processes 
    • Help triage and support design quality incidents 
    • Provide design feedback to cross-functional engineering teams 
    • Learn our product lifecycle management system and utilize to drive changes/improvements.  

Required qualifications:

    • B.S. in electrical engineering, or equivalent qualifying experience 
    • 2+ years relevant industry experience  
    • Enjoy problem solving and have a history of debugging circuit issues 
    • Highly organized and detail oriented 
    • Skilled with basic EE equipment such as an oscilloscope, power supply, multi-meter, etc.

What you'll do

    • Interface with internal program managers and technical directors to define customer needs 
    • Develop and document system, subsystem, unit, and external interface requirements using requirements management tools for flow-down to cross-functional teams 
    • Document and maintain Systems Engineering Plan and architecture descriptions 
    • Plan and conduct system, subsystem and unit verification 
    • Document verification activities using compliance matrix, verification test procedures, and verification test reports 
    • Support proposal activities to determine the optimum technical approach, author technical descriptions, determine compliance to customer specifications, and support development of cost and schedule estimates

Required qualifications

    • Staff - 10 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 5 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 3 years' experience; or equivalent experience.
    • Senior Staff - 12 years of related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years' experience; or equivalent experience.
    • Experience with Systems Engineering practices and principals, including writing, organizing, and verifying requirements. 
    • Experience in reading, interpreting, and applying engineering drawings, including assembly drawings, parts lists, wiring diagrams, and schematics. 
    • Experience with reliability and trend analysis. 
    • Experience working in cross-functional teams. 
    • Strong communication skills, both written and verbally. 
    • Demonstrated record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others. 
    • The ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance.  US citizenship is required as only US citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Propulsion engineering is one of the foundational technologies that determines the overall performance and reliability of the VBAT platform. We seek a subject matter expert to guide the development and test of our VBAT propulsion system technologies. 

What you'll do:

    • Lead multiple propulsion development and analysis projects related to aircraft engines, engine components, and fuel systems. 
    • Lead verification and validation test plans for fuel system, propulsion performance characterization, reliability and durability, aerodynamic performance, thermal management, and acoustic performance. 
    • Collaborate with external engine development suppliers for air system components such as turbochargers and superchargers, fuel system and control system to support the development and testing of various propulsion technologies (2S, 4S and alternative engine architecture) 
    • Produce technical reports to capture and communicate the findings of the propulsion system testing. 
    • Perform system, subsystem, and component trade studies. 
    • Review, execute the development and release of detailed design documents including CAD models, 2D drawings, assembly instructions, acceptance test plans and other design artifacts. 
    • Act as point of contact for test activities and collaborate with design, systems engineering and external testing/propulsion manufacturing partners. 
    • Hands on work in installing/setup test rig, data acquisition systems, actuator systems, control unit integration.

You will work cross-functionally in a dynamic and fast paced environment to help to plan and conduct UAV ground and flight testing in support of product development and prototyping. 


Establish and lead program level test strategies throughout development lifecycle to include:

    • Development of program test milestones and associated artifact delivery 
    • Planning and coordination of ground and flight test plans 
    • Definition and management of test infrastructure to include configuration of aircraft and ground control segment hardware, software, subsystems and test asset utilization

The Hivemind Test department (HMT) is a group of teams on mission to build a comprehensive and robust testing infrastructure that supports the development and deployment of the world’s best AI pilot and most reliable aircraft. Hivemind Test is dedicated to ensuring the highest level of quality, reliability, and performance in our Hivemind software ecosystem. This ecosystem includes software for AI behaviors, embedded systems, system integration, and more. Our group is charged with validating and verifying the entire Hivemind software ecosystem meets reliability standards and is operationally ready to meet mission objectives. 
 
We are seeking an experienced Foundations Software Test Engineer to join our growing Hivemind Test department, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest level of quality, reliability, and performance in our software foundations. This software sits below our AI technology and allows integration with robotics and avionics systems - more specifically with embedded systems/components, Linux operating systems, real time operating-systems, and related components.  
 
We are looking for a technical expert, passionate about rigorous and efficient testing. Someone who is not afraid to take charge, make-decisions, and do what honor dictates to make things happen. Ideally someone who experience with modern and innovative test solutions relative to robotics, aviation, DoD industries. HMT is a growing department so there are many opportunities for groups and individuals to evolve with time, to start we will hire someone who can drive execution and potentially build a team focused on Software Foundations Test Engineering. 

What you'll do:

    • Develop and execute test plans, test cases, and test scripts for embedded systems and operating system software components

The Flight Sciences team focuses on researching and developing state-of-the-art, high-performance vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) aircraft. As an aerodynamics Engineer on this team, you’ll work on an agile team grounded in first principles to push the boundaries of the state-of-the-art. 

What you’ll do:

    • Design and develop new aircraft configurations to meet mission performance objectives 
    • Analyze aerodynamic performance across a large array of air vehicle designs via CAD, low fidelity tools, CFD, ground test, wind tunnel test, and flight test experiments

Required qualifications:

    • Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 5 years experience; or equivalent experience. 
    • B.S. degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline, such as Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering. Technology-related degree plan also acceptable, e.g., Electrical Engineering, Aeronautics or Information Technology. Degrees with Manufacturing Testing competency will be considered 
    • 5+ years of experience with ground and/or flight test teams / maintainer or in a test related field.

The Platform Automation Engineering (PAE) function within HMT aims to optimize the introduction of new products and the transition from the design phase to the manufacturing and production phase. The team is responsible for coordinating with design teams to ensure manufacturability of Hivemind software and production automation applications deployed to manufacturing environments. We are seeking an experienced engineer to join our growing PAE team, where you will play a critical role in driving manufacturability of Shield AI products, designing & building automation solutions, and sustaining Shield AI product lines.  
 
We are looking for a technical expert, passionate about rigorous and efficient testing. Someone who is not afraid to take charge, make-decisions, and do what honor dictates to make things happen. Ideally someone with experience in building innovative test solutions relative to robotics or aircraft manufacturing. 

What you'll do:

    • Develop, implement, and lead test strategies for software provisioning, sensor calibration, and functional testing, ensuring alignment with manufacturing needs.

Embedded Software engineers work with electrical engineers, systems engineers, test engineers and the autonomy team to design and develop custom electronic boards and systems which support modern aerospace sensors, state-of-the-art UAV avionics, simulation systems and groundbreaking Artificial Intelligence applications. 

As a member of the Embedded Software team, you will be responsible for testing and verifying new software features and functionality which provide flight control, navigation, vehicle health, and AI driven autonomous control of various robotic vehicles.

What you'll do:

    • Participate in feature development from requirements generation through delivery to customers. 
    • Research, design, and implement state-of-the-art network centric software test applications, taking ideas from conception to field deployment.
    • Develop automated testing and reporting system for the entire robotic vehicle.
    • Develop Software-In The- Loop (SIL) and Hardware-In The-Loop (HIL) systems.
    • Work closely with Flight Test team to test and verify robotic aircraft.
    • Other duties as assigned.

Projects that you might work on:

    • Develop LabView/Python software which interfaces with National Instruments hardware to test and verify avionics hardware and software.
    • Integrate 3rd party software onto existing multi-CPU avionics suite.
    • Develop software and firmware to control robotic vehicles.
    • Integrate Shield AI Hivemind onto robotic vehicles.
    • Create new CI/CD pipelines with automated testing for embedded systems.

Required qualifications:

    • 5-7+ years' experience
    • Bachelors in CS, CE, or EE, or requisite experience
    • Strong C/C++/Python background
    • Experience with Linux operating system and software development tools
    • Experience interfacing hardware and software

Job description:
The Perception Group at Shield AI focuses on research and development of state-of-the-art algorithms that leverage cutting edge sensors to enable estimation of the state of robots, and observation, understanding and representation of their operating environment for robust autonomous operation in dynamic, uncertain and diverse environments.     • Contribute to research, design, and implementation of state-of-the-art perception algorithms, taking ideas from conception to field deployment

    • Work with our Hivemind Design team to design and build test and analysis infrastructure that supports local development and scales into the cloud

Job Description

The State Estimation team at Shield AI is responsible for research, design and development of methodologies to enable precise and robust estimation of the state of autonomous systems and state of the objects in the operating environment. The capabilities developed by the team enable operation of autonomous aerial vehicles in diverse and challenging environments.

As a State Estimation Functional Team Lead, you will build out the team and drive the technical roadmap that governs development of state estimation capabilities. You will lead, mentor, and work closely with talented engineers to define future generations of Shield AI products by enabling autonomous operation of aircrafts in dynamic and challenging environments.

In this role, you will collaborate closely with a variety of different engineering disciplines including Planning and Controls, Mechanical, Embedded, and Simulation to push the state of the art for autonomous systems. You will lead the development of agent and object state estimation capabilities to enable autonomy on medium-size VTOL aircrafts as well as large fighter jets.

What you'll do

    • Build and grow a world-class state estimation team capable of tackling hard problems
    • Drive or contribute to research, design, and implementation of state-of-the-art state estimation algorithms, taking ideas from conception to field deployment

Our Perception team at Shield AI focuses on research and development of state-of-the-art algorithms that leverage cutting edge sensors to enable estimation of the state of robots, and observation, understanding and representation of their operating environment for robust autonomous operation in dynamic, uncertain and diverse environments.

As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for ensuring harmonious integration of perception components and workflows across simulation, hardware emulators and our autonomous platforms. You will also be responsible for design and development of analysis and test pipelines for rapid verification of perception capabilities.

As an onsite team-member in Dallas, you will be working closely with Shield AI’s VBAT platform and the platform team to develop, integrate and test Perception algorithms. You will work closely with the rest of the Perception group in design and development of capabilities for VBAT and enable rapid integration and testing.

What you'll do:

    • Contribute to research, design, and implementation of state-of-the-art perception algorithms, taking ideas from conception to field deployment 
    • Work with and deploy our stack to edge devices
    • Work with Platform team to understand pain points and constraints to enable principled design of capabilities 
    • Work with our Hivemind Design team to design and build test and analysis infrastructure that supports local development and scales into the cloud

You will own and drive autonomy software release management (build & release responsibilities).
