Senior Machine Learning Engineer - Computer Vision (Remote)

We are looking for a Machine Learning Engineer - Computer Vision to join our growing ML team. You will work on challenging computer vision problems to have an impact on the 31,000+ life scientists across the world who rely on BenchSci for their research. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, ML, you'll apply your domain expertise to select, train and deploy the best-suited machine learning algorithms, collaborate and experiment with scientists, and apply techniques to build solutions to shape the future of scientific discovery. You will have plenty of room for technical innovation and greenfield to explore and propose computer vision solutions to a complex area.

You will:

    • Improve the performance and scalability of ML models and pipelines that are at the core of BenchSci's products
    • Work on different stages of the problem from prototyping to production
    • Contribute to key components across the machine learning ecosystem defining BenchSci's ML Technical Roadmap
    • Investigate what technologies that will best enable BenchSci to identify experimental insights through proof-of-concepts
    • Work with diverse teams to correctly capture the nuances of biology, translating them into ML objectives
    • Advocate for code and engineering process improvements across your team, and help define best practices
    • Participate in sprint planning, estimations, and reviews
    • Work with teammates to ensure high-quality deliverables

You have:

    • 3+ years of experience working as a professional developer, with at least 2 years of this focused on machine learning and computer vision
    • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or other related disciplines
    • Excellent software engineering skills in Python
    • Comprehensive knowledge in the end-to-end machine learning lifecycle, including the nuances of the infrastructure and operationsExperience with ML and/or Computer Vision fundamentals
    • Experience productionizing ML models Experience with PyTorch, TensorFlow, Scikit-learn, and image processing libraries such as OpenCV and Scikit-image
    • Experience with distributed and cloud-based data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark or Apache Beam
    • A constant desire to develop

We are seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our platform architecture team. This role is an opportunity to apply state-of-the-art ML that will shape the future of scientific discovery. You will be a key player in accomplishing BenchSci's vision to help scientists bring novel medicine to patients 50% faster by 2025. Your work will have an impact on thousands of scientists across the world who rely on BenchSci for their research.  

Reporting to the Head of the Platform Architecture Group, you will work on complex and challenging ML architectures (model level and data pipeline level). You will be responsible for the high-level design of technical solutions end to end. You will work closely with our ML teams, provide guidance and mentorship, and set the technical direction throughout the ML Development Lifecycle.

BenchSci is a remote first organization. At this moment, we are welcoming applicants from Canada.

You will:

    • Join the Platform Architecture Group, collaborate with Staff Engineers and architects and provide high-level end-to-end solution design for the company’s mission critical initiatives.
    • Design ML Architecture across multiple ML and Data Teams in order to build robust, scalable and production-ready solutions that enhance the speed and quality of life-saving research.
    • Write, review and approve ML and Data technical documentation to ensure quality and accuracy of performance and results.
    • Contribute to the ML and Data roadmap by ensuring project proposals are both highly impactful and technically feasible. 
    • Continuously improve our workflows by keeping up to date with the latest optimizations in libraries such as PyTorch, and expand our usage of modern tools such as DVC.
    • Own ML solutions and long-term technical investments that will drive innovation at BenchSci.
    • Lead technical design discussions, apply best practices, diagnose problems and lead the resolution while fostering an inclusive environment. 
    • Participate and contribute to Agile grooming, planning and estimation.
    • Promote the definition of coding guidelines and raise the bar for code quality using tools such as SonarCloud.
    • Provide guidance to senior engineers and help to foster a culture of continuous growth.
    • Work cross functionally with different stakeholders including BenchSci's R&D scientists to learn, model, and capture the nuances of biology.

You have:

    • At least 8 years of professional experience applying ML techniques to solve business problems, with at least 2 years at a Staff Engineer level.
    • Strong experience with NLP and LLMs. 
    • Strong experience with Python and programming fundamentals.
    • Extensive experience with PyTorch.
    • Track record of successfully delivering robust, scalable and production-ready ML models.
    • Experience with the full ML development lifecycle from architecture and technical design, through data collection and preparation, model selection, training and evaluation, to deployment and maintenance.
    • Experience with data manipulation and processing, such as SQL or pandas. Experience with Cloud solutions and Cloud architecture, in particular with MLOps,  DataOps and data warehouses. 
    • Experience leading technical design discussions, writing and reviewing technical design documents and providing technical guidance and directions.
    • Ability to reason about trade-offs and make technical decisions under a certain level of uncertainty. Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills. 
    • A growth mindset and a constant desire to learn.

We are seeking a Sr ML Engineer - Research & NLP to join our growing Core Machine Learning (CoreML) team. You will work on complex and challenging NLP problems that will have an impact on the 41,000+ scientists across the world who rely on BenchSci for their research. 

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, ML, you’ll apply your domain expertise to build advanced machine learning algorithms, collaborate with data engineers to build benchmarking and data preparation pipelines, and core infrastructure engineers to deploy and monitor your models in our production system. You Will:

    • Design, build, evaluate and deploy robust, scalable and production-ready ML models that enhance the speed and quality of life-saving research
    • Run research-focused projects to invent new NLP/ML solutions
    • Collaborate with data and core infrastructure engineers to solve the complex problems of extracting insights from biomedical text data
    • Continuously improve our ML workflow by keeping up to date with the latest optimizations in libraries such as PyTorch, and expand our usage of modern tools such as DVC
    • Drive design discussions, apply best practices, diagnose problems and lead the resolution

You Have:

    • 4+ years of experience working as a professional developer applying ML techniques, with 2+ years in ML research
    • Expertise in fundamentals of ML model training  and designing, building and evaluating robust & scalable production-ready ML models
    • Strong experience working with LLMs, Python and programming fundamentals, and NLP & PyTorch
    • Experience with data manipulation and processing, such as SQL or pandas

We are seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer to join our platform architecture team. This role is an opportunity to apply state-of-the-art ML that will shape the future of scientific discovery. Reporting to the Head of the Platform Architecture Group, you will work on complex and challenging ML architectures (model level and data pipeline level). You will be responsible for the high-level design of technical solutions end to end. You will work closely with our ML teams, provide guidance and mentorship, and set the technical direction throughout the ML Development Lifecycle.

You will:

    • Join the Platform Architecture Group, collaborate with Staff Engineers and architects and provide high-level end-to-end solution design for the company’s mission critical initiatives.
    • Design ML Architecture across multiple ML and Data Teams in order to build robust, scalable and production-ready solutions that enhance the speed and quality of life-saving research.
    • Write, review and approve ML and Data technical documentation to ensure quality and accuracy of performance and results.
    • Contribute to the ML and Data roadmap by ensuring project proposals are both highly impactful and technically feasible. 
    • Continuously improve our workflows by keeping up to date with the latest optimizations in libraries such as PyTorch, and expand our usage of modern tools such as DVC.
    • Own ML solutions and long-term technical investments that will drive innovation at BenchSci.
    • Lead technical design discussions, apply best practices, diagnose problems and lead the resolution while fostering an inclusive environment. Participate and contribute to Agile grooming, planning and estimation.
    • Promote the definition of coding guidelines and raise the bar for code quality using tools such as SonarCloud.

You have:

    • At least 8 years of professional experience applying ML techniques to solve business problems, with at least 2 years at a Staff Engineer level.
    • Strong experience with NLP and LLMs. Strong experience with Python and programming fundamentals.
    • Extensive experience with PyTorch.
    • Track record of successfully delivering robust, scalable and production-ready ML models.
    • Experience with the full ML development lifecycle from architecture and technical design, through data collection and preparation, model selection, training and evaluation, to deployment and maintenance.
    • Experience with data manipulation and processing, such as SQL or pandas.
    • Experience with Cloud solutions and Cloud architecture, in particular with MLOps,  DataOps and data warehouses.
    • Experience leading technical design discussions, writing and reviewing technical design documents and providing technical guidance and directions.
    • Ability to reason about trade-offs and make technical decisions under a certain level of uncertainty.
    • Strong cross-team communication and collaboration skills. A growth mindset and a constant desire to learn.
